With (almost) everyone working from home and kids out of school bouncing off the walls, we wanted to have a little building to keep the positivity flowing.
So we decided to hold a 3-part #BuildWithKodiak contest for kids (12 and under), to see what buildings they could come up with.
Building Challenge #1 asked them to submit their most creative building drawings.
The imagination and creative thinking that went into these drawings was absolutely amazing! We definitely have quite a few talented artists and architects in the making.

Once we had all our submissions in, we held a draw live on Facebook to pick the winner.
The prize pack went to our youngest builder…RJ (age 2), who won a $50 gift card to the Lego store with his race track inspired drawing.
For Building Challenge #2, we are looking for creative 3D building structures that can be made out of ANY material that will stay standing.

When CAP Enterprises Ltd. wanted a new equipment storage building to protect and stand up against Arctic Canada’s freezing temperatures and heavy winds, they called Kodiak.
They were looking for an affordable storage solution that would protect heavy equipment through the harshest weather, without driving up their heating and operating costs.
With their new 36′ x 60′ x 16′ insulated storage building up and running, we went all the way North to Gjoa Haven, Nunavut to inspect the installation.
Outfitted with R20 insulation, the temperatures reached way below freezing and winds were over 60km/hour but the building stood still and maintained a warm and dry interior.

When we moved our Ontario office last summer, we designed a new Kodiak building that could double as both our warehouse and office space.
With our project specifications, we customized our layout, added some options and accessories, and sent our project to manufacturing.
Once our design and 3-D (engineered) drawings were complete, we got our new Kodiak warehouse building up and running in 3 steps:
1. Foundation
With time between manufacturing and delivery, we poured and set the foundation, adding our anchor bolts to get ready for our steel building components.
2. Frame
Once the foundation was set (and anchor bolts secure), our building components arrived and we were able to assemble/attach the steel frame to our bolts immediately.
3. Finishing Touches
To finish, we added our insulated wall and roof panels, garage opening, walk doors, and windows. Voila! Our new Kodiak building was up and running, complete with electrical.
Within weeks, we went from a bare build site to a brand new insulated warehouse/office space that will protect from Ontario’s all-season weather.

Harness the Power of Solar Energy
All of our metal roof panels are designed to meet LEED and ENERGY STAR SR values, which are based on a material’s solar reflectivity (SR) or reflectance.
SR value (a number from 0 to 1.0) is the material’s ability to reflect solar energy from its surface back into the atmosphere (0 indicates total absorbance).
To determine compliance with LEED requirements, a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) value is used. The SRI value is calculated according to ASTM E 1980 for reflectance and emissivity (the material’s ability to release absorbed energy).
Choose a Cool Roof Color
To reduce your energy consumption further, you can select one of our cool paint colors, available on all of our metal roof panels.
Using a cool roof color can provide big energy savings while also helping to mitigate urban heat islands*.
*An urban heat island (UHIs) is an elevation of air temperatures in urban communities, caused when vegetation is replaced by large sections of pavement or other dark, non-reflective surfaces. They influence the temperature of the affected area and are responsible for higher pollutants in the air.
Our cool roof colors meet both the reflectivity* and emissivity* performance levels required by LEED and ENERGY STAR to mitigate the cause of UHIs and reduce your building’s energy use overall.
*Reflectivity refers to the deflection of solar energy from a surface. The greater the reflective abilities, the less energy it will require to cool your building.
*Emissivity is the relative ability of a surface to emit heat by radiation. Like reflectivity, when a roof can effectively cool itself through radiative heat loss, it will reduce the amount of energy consumption for the entire building.

Our IMP’s also prevent air leakage and water penetration through panel joints to further boost their ability to withstand any weather/element.
BONUS: Your insulated metal panels can be disassembled when no longer needed, and recycled or reused to create the structure of a new steel building.
